A Keep Britain Tidy survey into the importance of the quality of our streets , compared to other issues of world concern, saw the credit crunch top the list of worries, with violent crime and then local environmental quality - as a high priority as terrorism and global warming.
“The Word on Our Street” survey also found that we feel guiltier if we drop litter than when we speed on a motorway or bunk off work for the day!
The survey reported that we link littered streets to our fear of crime.
Phil Barton (Keep Britain Tidy CEO) said “This is really important, people’s perception of safety and well being are affected by the area they live in. If we can tackle things such as litter and graffiti we can also improve people’s quality of life and feelings of wellbeing. Our survey shows that people feel guilty about dropping litter. So why do they persist in doing it? If we can tap into this maybe we can reduce this happening?”

As food waste cannot be collected in a skip the best thing to do with it is compost it!
Find out how by visiting www.greenusesforwaste.co.uk
What is the Eden Project?
A former CIWM Award winner for Environmental Excellence, the Eden Project has become a composting journey.
Since it started turning its kitchen scraps and café leftovers into compost for its world famous gardens, the Eden Project has now diverted 100 tones of food waste from landfill.
An onsite composter was installed in 2005 and now claims to convert around 90% of its food waste into a soil enhancement product used in gardens and on its range of plants.
The Operations Manager says ” the whole composting process is a great educational tool for visitors, because they see the journey of their food from the plate through to the plant. It starts as they sort waste from their trays into different containers, and ends as they pass by the composting plant which has deliberately sited near once of the public car parks.”

If you didn’t know already, rubbish is becoming a huge problem in the world! If you don’t believe me then listen to this story:
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there is an area that is twice the size of the USA. This area is completely made up of plastic waste; it is almost like an Island that you can walk on. Bizzare isn’t it?! The plastic all stays together because of the vicious, circling currents.
Now wouldn’t you like to dispose of your rubbish the more ‘conventional’ way. Well we can help you. Simply log onto www.bookaskip.co.uk. All you need to know is your postcode, the size and the type of your skip and the dates you require it for. It is that simple!
None of this Plastic Island in the middle of the Ocean business!!!
